One horse has tested positive, and 28 horses were Coggins tested on the 8th March for EIA in MONTCARET, DORDOGNE. The horses have been under surveillance since the 25th of February 2010.
This is a very serious notifiable disease with any positive horses facing compulsory slaughter. The symptoms are listed HERE, the second disease on the list.

ERF were contacted several months ago by the owner of this horse after he had received a terrible injury to his leg that would not repair. A small fortune was spent on vet’s fees by the owner trying to repair the leg. A horse has tested positive for Equine Infectious Anaemia (Anémie infectieuse équine) following a Coggins test in dept. 83, Var.
The disease, spread by biting insects is often fatal in equines.
