A big thank to all who came and supported ERF last Saturday at the Blooming Great Tea Party which was organised in aid of Marie Curie. We were pleased to have raised approx 80€ on the day and once again the sale of good quality 2nd hand books went really well. If you have any books you have read and would like to pass on then please think of ERF as this gets us some much needed funds in....

This week we went visiting ERF adopted horses Tiko (formerly Accord) and Hug. It was great to see them both again and to see the change in their personality and physique since they originally came into ERF ownership. Big thanks to both Guardians for giving these 2 special horses a second chance in life.

In the US in 2007, when the government bowed to pressure from animal rights groups, the processing plants for horses were closed and the last horses slaughtered legally. Unfortunately, those lobbying had not considered in full the catastrophic result on all the horses who remain unwanted.
The most important misconception was the belief that the abattoirs only existed for people to make money from...

As an association, if an animal is accepted into the lifetime care of ERF, we follow through on that responsibility to the best of our ability.
When we homecheck a potential guardian, they must comply with the criteria we specify before we will allow an equine to go under their care.
The animal is passported into our ownership and remains in our name, and our property. Unlike some associations,...

Mother and son donkeys, Manon and Rowan, have been in their new adoptive home for 5 months now. You can read about how they came to be ERF donkeys by clicking on their story here.
Rowan is now 11 months old and is really starting to look like a big grown up donkey! Rowan and the adopters other young donkey, Boy, were gelded at the same time a few months back, and they are now happily back in with...

ERF had a great day yesterday at the Etcetera fun day in Lessac (16). Thank you so much to all the generous supporters who donated, bought raffle tickets, clothing, cakes, books, or simply came along for a chat. A big welcome and a thank you to all our new members who joined yesterday. Your support is very much appreciated.
This year saw more people through the doors than last year, giving us an...

Back on the homechecking travels yesterday, and off to see Daisy and Dora. It’s lovely to see how their guardians are so diligent in the way they care for them. The donkeys have various ‘rooms’ in the barn to choose from, including a choice of beds in the section nearest the house. Every evening, they come up the hill and shout for their supper, and are never...

This Sunday, June 12th, is the annual Etcetera exhibition and family fun day at Lessac 16500 and we will be there with the ERF stand hoping to meet lots of new (and old!) supporters. We will have lots of photos and literature on display showing the work we do, current campaigns and how your valuable donations goes to helping equines in France.

Yesterday we were out on the road visiting some of the ERF adopted donkeys. First stop was to see Maddie, Elly and Poppy who have been out under contract since 2009 in the Haute Vienne.
The 3 of them look superb and little Poppy has now grown into quite a big donkey. It’s nice to hear that they are now getting on well having their feet trimmed, which was a bit of a battle to start...

No foot, no horse!
In our region on the Poitou-Charentes we have still had no rain to speak of for weeks. The ground is like concrete and those horses with thin soles or arthritic joints are probably having a bit of a hard time right now more than most. Whether your equines are shod or not, you may find that you are needing to call the farrier out sooner than normal because cracks and...

Belle and Lena are two ERF donkeys who joined our herd back in June 2008 with their Mum Nanette ( see here). We were extremely happy when we were able to place them locally in a great home where they have received fabulous care and Lena was able to have her foal, Vinnie, safely.
Sadly, things change and we now need to find these two donkeys a new home for reasons outside anyone’s control....

Today seemed as good a day as any to finally try Mimi in with another horse. Up until now Mimi has been next door to other horses but never in with them. One reason was because there was never a herd here we felt was suitable to put her in with, but we think we found a good match for her in Jolie.
Whilst we don’t ever want to see a horse get injured, we felt that due to Mimi’s...

We really love receiving updates from our adopters, especially when they are getting such enjoyment from their adopted horse or donkey. Titos and Archie, who were adopted last year, are having a wonderful time down in the Lot where they are always out and about in the countryside going for walks with their human friends.
Donkeys are often overlooked when it comes to doing things and all too often...

An unavoidable part of keeping equines is the fact that they produce manure….manure in great quantities! On average a horse will produce about 8-12 piles of poo a day, that could be more that 22kg a day for just one horse.
If you are managing your paddocks by ‘poop scooping’ or have your horses in and muck out each day, you will, like many of us be wondering what to do with all...
