News and footage of unacceptable abuse has been filtering through from the Al Reef Cup – a CEN 120 Km Endurance Ride in Abu Dhabi.
For starters, here’s the E, R, and Dsq list. One hundred started, only thirty finished, so 70% didn’t manage to complete. Scroll down to the charts at the bottom of the list link to see the numbers breakdown more...

Our lovely Grace has found a fabulous home, in a quiet hamlet surrounded by forest. She is going to have her education furthered, and will be started riding and possibly taught to do some logging, which she would excel at!
She travelled and settled no bother, although her first encounter with one of her new field mates made us smile! Don’t think she’s encountered a short-necked...

Tonight, we say a very sad goodbye to the big gentle giant that is Knaven.
Knaven was put into the care of ERF six years ago, along with his companions Molly and Merlin, when his owner’s circumstances changed dramatically and she could no longer look after them.
Knaven had been taken out of the meat chain from a market in the UK by his previous owner, and she was distraught at the thought...

Our gorgeous Grace is looking for some new people.
Her current fosters can’t put electric fencing round the field that she’s in, and like all smart horses, Grace figured out that she can get through the netting by stepping over it.
Because of that, we are desperately looking for someone with electric fencing (which she respects) not too close to a road.
She has been long-lined and...

After the global outcry about the equine abuse witnessed at Compiègne (as detailed in the previous two blogs) five attending French vets wrote an open letter to the FEI stating their fears about the direction the sport of Endurance has taken. The Group 7 countries (Middle East), who appear to have winning at any cost (financial or equine)...

Following on from Monday’s blog about the sorry state of a horse competing at Compiègne, here’s a rough breakdown of the completions versus non completions for the two International competitions.
2*
121 starters
60 completed
61 non-completions
29 of the non-completions were lame: 15 of those were Middle East, 8 were French
Just over 50% FAILED to complete, and almost half of those...

There’s yet more disturbing news coming out of the world of International Endurance.
On May 23, an emaciated horse was passed fit to compete at the initial vet check.
SHAKLA’S SUDDEN IMPACT, ridden by RAED MAHMOOD, was competing from the stables of the
ROYAL ENDURANCE TEAM of BAHRAIN.
This photo understandably...

UPDATE!!! We have found Maddie a new home!
Thanks to all who have shared her page and enquired about her, and we will update with a new blog as soon as we can!
Maddie is currently on the Isle of Wight, and her current guardian’s circumstances have changed. We had a new home lined up, but due to various circumstances this home has fallen through.
Maddie is a stunning part bred Cob Normand...

We have Grace and Ruby both looking for new homes again. They are currently in the North Dordogne near Piegut Pluviers.
GRACE
It has unfortunately taken us 10 weeks to get her back to looking reasonably presentable and in good health after her previous adopters badly neglected her. It’s very frightening how fast a big horse can lose weight and condition in the space of three months.
We...

Toni Veitch, who ran BankEnd Rescue in Selby, is one who was a staunch supporter of those who were importing horses from the French abattoir queues. She was given ‘rescued’ horses by the Essex dealer who herself neglected many.
We were shown photographs of the state of several of the horses whose condition brought this court case to bear, and I have rarely seen worse states of...

Great news from Spain – a Spanish Bullfighter has become the first to be reprimanded and fined for abuse of a horse. Admittedly the fine is negligible, but hopefully this will set a precedent.
This is the link, and a google translation of the text...

Not so long ago, somebody came up with the very clever but also simple idea of linking dinner/supper parties.
The basic premise is one lovely kind person invites another five lovely kind people round for a meal, and stands the cost of that meal themselves.
Each guest pays the host(ess) a fiver for the evening, and that money goes to ERF.
Each of those five people has then to host a meal for...

This SKY NEWS article is a must read for anyone who breeds indiscriminately, or passes on older or lame horses – Turner’s Abattoir, Cheshire is where many of these horses end up.
The answer is not no slaughterhouses, but more that are regularly and diligently policed by welfare bodies. This is happening because these abattoirs are inundated with more unwanted animals than they can...
