Mimi the mule starts her education
Posted by on Jan 29, 2009 in Association News, Donkeys, Rescues | 0 commentsYesterday was an eventful day to say the least when we turned up to collect Mimi to take her to her new adoptive home.
Mimi had been ruling her previous owner a little and had a bit of ‘mule attitude’ when asked to do anything other than what Mimi wanted! Mules are incredibly intelligent and also have, in general, an untrusting and sensitive nature. Trust has to be earned with mules but once gained they can become the most loyal and devoted of all equines. Read some more info about Mules here.
So instead of taking Mimi straight to her new home we decided it would be wise to take her back to base camp for a little tuition on the basics of who is in charge and how we do things. Here is day one of Mimi in the round pen doing some basic join up, stopping, starting, backing up and learning about pressure and release. She was a star today and what a difference from yesterday when she was leading us a right merry dance!
