Petition the government to tighten DEFRA regulations

Currently the equine herd in the UK is being put at risk by the private importation of ill and sub standard equines from unregulated dealers in Europe. These imports are placing UK animals at risk as well as putting additional pressures on UK equine charities. We ask the government to ensure that all equines imported into the UK conform with the Animal Health Act 1981, the Importation of Animals Order 1977 and the Animal and Animal Products regulations 2006. Stop the live, long-distance transportation of live equines

At ERF, we are constantly horrified by the number of horses and donkeys that make the long journey via France to Spain or Italy for slaughter. We have rescued foals as young as 5 months who were destined to end their short lives travelling enormous distances in unsuitable transport without any stops for food or water.

Rather than start our own campaign, we believe that we will be able to make the most difference by working together with larger and more experienced organisations. We ask all our members and supporters to join us in campaiging alongside these major organisations to get action taken!Please be warned that some of these sites show shocking images.....
